Lies in Print

By oceanguy | February 11, 2008

After reading about the “growing” problem of suicide among our soldiers, I went looking for this report from late last year about military deaths, American War and Military Operations Casualties: Lists and Statistics.

As the charts below show, the Washington Post is simply lying about the numbers. Their story is a complete fabrication. When the news in Iraq is good, as it has been for the past 6 months or so, the coverage shifts… it’s still “anti-war” but… it shifts from battlefield failures to failures of our people in uniform. The coverage is dishonest, and is borderline treasonous. But don’t take my word for it. First read the Post article about soldiers and suicide, one in particular of which they say:

[The soldier’s] personal tragedy is part of an alarming phenomenon in the Army’s ranks: Suicides among active-duty soldiers in 2007 reached their highest level since the Army began keeping such records in 1980, according to a draft internal study obtained by The Washington Post. Last year, 121 soldiers took their own lives, nearly 20 percent more than in 2006.

OK, maybe it isn’t a lie, as much as it is cherry picking unflattering statistics, compiled in a questionable manner by an organization hostile to our Military, in order to print the story they want to print. Damn the facts, it’s the anti-Bush agenda that’s important. If the war goes well, then our military men and women are stupid, psycho, criminal victims… because “national security” is a Republican issue… The violent warmongers, and political fearmongers are proud of our troops and what they do. Caring, informed and really intelligent people care about our troops because they are simply victims of the evil Bush led government. It’s truly tragic… and depressing.

Here, take a look at the numbers of casualties from 1980 through 2006. What trends do you see?

Excellent post, and thanks for doing the research. I hope that more and more the old media will realize that the new media can fact check their stories, and they can’t get away with their lies anymore.
