Most Famous Americans

In an eye-opening poll of 2000 American High-Schoolers, here are the Top Ten Most Famous Americans as determined by researchers… No Presidents or First Ladies allowed.

1. Martin Luther King Jr.: 67%
2. Rosa Parks: 60%
3. Harriet Tubman: 44%
4. Susan B. Anthony: 34%
5. Benjamin Franklin: 29%
6. Amelia Earhart: 25%
7. Oprah Winfrey: 22%
8. Marilyn Monroe: 19%
9. Thomas Edison: 18%
10. Albert Einstein: 16%

My first question is, Was the poll taken during Black History Month? My second question would be, Oprah Winfrey??? I need to run this exercise on my high school junior this evening, I’ll let you know the results.

Below the fold are my 10, in no particular order of fame, infamy nor importance:

Here’s my son’s list… I didn’t share any other results with him nor the linked article. I just asked him to list the 10 most famous Americans from Christopher Columbus’ time through today, with no Presidents or First Ladies allowed.
