Cannot Afford to Be Wrong

By oceanguy | October 27, 2009

Like most informed Americans I am aware of and concerned about rising healthcare costs.

Also, like most Americans, I am skeptical about our Government’s ability to make ANYthing more efficient and less expensive, and especially with regard to healthcare, in which the government has an impressive track record of making it more expensive and less efficient and lower quality than private options.

My desire to slow the growth of healthcare costs and to provide everyone with basic health insurance, does NOT equate to support for Obamacare.

I am disgusted and weary of Democratic talking heads droning on about how open and vigorous the debate over healthcare has been. I am disgusted by their dissembling about Republican’s being uncooperative, and I am ashamed that our press cannot even bring themselves to report on HR 3400 and how it differs from HR 3200.

The changes my Democrats are trying to shove up our collective arse are immense. While I am personally certain the changes will be disastrous for our economy and for the quality of healthcare delivery, I am not so arrogant to believe I can’t be wrong.

But… with ANY chance at all of the Democrats being wrong, we ought to be proceeding with caution because we cannot afford to get it wrong. There will be no turning back…

But then this ALL isn’t really about healthcare, is it? It’s about expanding government power which necessarily brings a reduction of our freedoms. Whatever happened to the Democrats I knew, loved and supported… those Democrats who cherished personal freedom… and mistrusted government power? Where are they? Where have they gone?
